Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway has not been with the team since January due to an unspecified violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and one attorney isn’t happy about it.
That attorney is one Huntley Johnson who, despite not representing Callaway, put out a statement yesterday saying that the allegations against Callaway had “no merit” and he should be allowed to rejoin the Gators with spring practice already underway.
Johnson lashed out at the university for suspending Callaway over an incident that allegedly occurred in early December, but not having resolved his situation just yet. The former four-star talent from Miami impressed as a freshman, reeling in 35 catches for 678 yards and four touchdowns.
But here’s the kicker. Callaway and teammate Treon Harris have both been away from the team since January, but head coach Jim McElwain hasn’t once indicated why they were both on suspension. It’s odd to see Florida be so cloak and dagger with details, but the coaching staff probably has their reasons. Thus, why Johnson is getting involved when Antonio Callaway isn’t even his client is just plain odd.
