According to one of Martavis Bryant’s agents, Brian Fettner, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver is planning on checking into a rehab facility to treat his substance abuse issues and look into possible depression, as told to USA Today.
Bryant had broken the NFL’s substance abuse policy multiple times, and is facing a year-long suspension after his latest misstep.
“We’re all stunned, me included,” Fettner said, shortly after broke news of the ban Saturday. “We clearly miscalculated the issue. His isn’t a party issue. It’s a coping issue and a depression issue, and he’s got to take care of it.”
Fettner and Bryant’s other agent, Tom Santanello, plan on looking into a possible appeal before Bryant chooses a specific facility. Fettner added that Bryant is dealing with an addiction to marijuana.
Players getting professional help is becoming more and more prevalent, as Johnny Manziel checked into rehab last offseason, although it seems he’s still battling issues. Bryant’s presence on the field will be missed by the Steelers, as he was the No. 2 receiver behind Antonio Brown.
