The Las Vegas SuperBook has named the Michigan State Spartans as this year’s favorite to win the 2016 NCAA Tournament, according to a tweet from ESPN’s David Payne Purdham. Per the SuperBook, the Spartans are 5/1 favorites.
Odds to win NCAA tourney @LVSuperBook
Mich St 5/1
Kansas 6/1
UNC 7/1
UVA 8/1
Nova 10/1
OU 18/1
WVU 20/1
Maryland 20/1
Xavier 25/1
Duke 25/1— David Payne Purdum (@DavidPurdum) March 12, 2016
Regardless of whether one may agree with the odds, Michigan State is definitely up there in terms of favorites. Kansas has experience, as does North Carolina, but the Spartans could be in a league all their own.
Keep in mind that we’re talking about a team that made it to the Final Four last year as a No. 7 seed and ultimately lost to Duke, but is also in a prime position make a deep run this year. Not only does Michigan State have practically all of its key players from last year back, but the Spartans also have a key spark plug in transfer guard Eron Harris and probably the most underrated freshman in the country in Deyonta Davis.
Oh, and there’s also the fact that star guard Denzel Valentine could probably average a triple-double for a season if he so chose.
