Analyst: Nintendo NX not going to be good

Though so much of it is still shrouded in secrecy, much of the talk in the gaming industry is about Nintendo’s new upcoming console code named the NX.

What exactly is the NX? What will it offer gamers that will convince them to jump back to Nintendo after the much-maligned Wii U? Well, according to one well-known analyst, the NX won’t give fans that reason. In fact, he thinks it just won’t be a very good console.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities, an analyst known for his over-the-top thoughts on the industry, said that, though he doesn’t have an idea of what the console is, he doesn’t think it’s going to be a success.

“You know, it’s sounding an awful lot like it’s a handheld and console hybrid, where you have a handheld and you do some stuff on it, and the console will be like an Apple TV or something, and you can pull games down from that,” he told GamingBolt. “I’m not really sure. I would say based on Nintendo’s recent history, it is not going to be very good. I know they are pretty excited about it, but I would say it’s a backward looking technology, that is just not an improvement over everything else that we’ve got an option to do, and it will completely miss the point of games getting away from consoles.

Pachter also added that he doesn’t think the console is coming out this year due to Nintendo’s history of showing things a year or so out of its public launch. That being said, all signs still point to the NX console coming out around Holiday 2016.

Obviously, no one knows what this new console from Nintendo will feature or what it’s main purpose will be. But to hear someone so adamant that it will be another failure can’t be too reassuring for fans hoping for a console to rival the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Still, Pachter has never been to supportive of Nintendo in past years, so one has to one if this is just past grudges still holding strong within him.

After all, he’s the same guy who claimed the console market was dying despite the fact that the PS4 is on pace to be one of the best selling home consoles of all time.

The Nintendo NX is expected to be unveiled at E3 2016 in June.
