UConn manhandles Memphis to win AAC, punch tournament ticket

Connecticut fought past a second half rally by Memphis to win the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament and punch its ticket back to the NCAA Tournament after missing out last season. Shonn Miller and Sterling Gibbs each had 13 points in the 72-58 victory as UConn shot 46 percent from the field and took advantage of having superior guards to hold Memphis to 37.5 percent shooting as a unit.

And the Huskies can now look forward to being firmly off the bubble, their ticket punched thanks to some miracles in the AAC Tournament. UConn is certainly looking at a lower seed after having an up and down season and being on the bubble entering the AAC tourney, but the Huskies have all of the momentum at their backs now.

This team can do great things when it plays hungry like it has the past few days, so don’t be at all shy about possibly giving them a deeper tournament run than anticipated. After all, they DID win a national championship as a No. 7 seed back in 2014.
