If you thought the Florida Gators’ kicking game was awful in 2015, it looks like things won’t be getting any better going into the 2016 season. There are reports that the team would be losing starting kicker Austin Hardin to transfer very soon.
Hardin, who struggled for most of the 2015 season, is reportedly going to transfer in the near future. The Orlando Sentinel broke the news Monday morning that the strong-legged kicker will be seeking a release from the program.
Luckily for the Gators, they were able to steal top 2016 kicker Eddy Pineiro away from the Alabama Crimson Tide, so Hardin probably wouldn’t have had a job this year anyway.
During the 2015 season, Austin Hardin was only 5-of-14 on field goals, which added to the team’s awful 10-of-17 mark on field goal attempts. This led to the team holding an open tryout and giving a roster spot to a dental student midway through the season.
In three years with the Gators, Hardin was 16-of-36 on field goals and had four kicks blocked.
