March Madness 2016: Jay Williams says Kentucky got ‘hosed’

Kentucky rallied late in the season to clinch a share of the SEC regular season title and subsequently win the SEC Tournament, but ESPN analyst Jay Williams doesn’t think that a No. 4 seed is good enough for the Wildcats.

Williams took to Twitter and went so far as to say that Kentucky got “hosed” by the Selection Committee after defeating Texas A&M in the SEC Final, only to get a No. 4 seed to the Aggies’ No. 3.

Granted, Williams’ criticism of the decision is not without merit, but let’s not forget a few key pieces of information. First off, Kentucky lost to Texas A&M in the regular season, in overtime on February 20. On top of that, the Wildcats did not look as dominant as they did last season. All but one of Kentucky’s losses came against unranked teams, as even Texas A&M was unranked when they beat the Wildcats.

Thus, though Jay Williams is a respected analyst and it does look a bit strange that Kentucky is seeded lower than Texas A&M given the circumstances, the Selection Committee’s decision was not entirely unjustified.
