Mark Whipple has finally completed his UMass coaching staff and can now turn his attention to preparing for the upcoming college football season. Jason Palermo was hired as the university’s tight ends coach, with Mike Foley rounding out the coaching staff as offensive line coach.
Whipple announced the hirings in an official statement, praising both of the new Minutemen assistants.
“Coach Foley brings many years of experience, especially with the offensive line,” Whipple said. “He’s a Massachusetts guy with an impeccable record as a coach and a recruiter.
“I’ve known Jason Palermo since we were recruiting him to the University of Massachusetts in 2002. I’ve followed his career – he was a great player at Wisconsin and an academic honoree. He’s a good, solid, young coach who’ll bring a lot of energy.”
While Foley is a very seasoned coach, Palermo will be stepping into his first FBS gig. It should be interesting to see how the staff leads the team on the field next year.
