On Tuesday, the mixed martial arts world was hit was some surprising news when it was announced World Series of Fighting lightweight champion Justin Gaethje had received an indefinite suspension from the Colorado State Boxing Commission for “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
Gaethje’s suspension reportedly came from his decision to ignore the commission’s request that he not perform his trademark backflip after the bout. However, after Gaethje earned a first-round TKO victory over Brian Foster, he decided to celebrate by doing his backflip.
There was some surprise when the suspension was announced, but it seems as though the suspension was just a warning shot from the commission.
According MMAFighting.com, the suspension has already been lifted after just one day.
The Colorado State Boxing Commission said “the suspension was meant to be a warning to both Gaethje and future fighters in Colorado about the dangers of performing high-flying acrobatics off the cage.”
Now, we can all move forward and hopefully keep those ridiculous suspensions a thing of the past.
