One player that has seen his NFL Draft stock plummet from the start of the 2015 college football season to now is former Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman. He was, at one point, considered to be the top player in the Draft, but has now fallen all the way to third round.
However, this doesn’t mean that some coaches have lost faith in him. His former college coach, Art Briles, spoke with NFL.com and said that Oakman will end up being a big player in the NFL and could be a steal for whoever ends up with him.
“He’s a different cat. I wouldn’t want to categorize him,” Briles said on Wednesday. ” … Shawn has done an unbelievable job of staying very humble. He is a tremendous athlete with a tremendous frame. Whoever gets him, they’re getting a steal in the draft, I can promise you that.”
Over three years, Shawn Oakman recorded 46.5 tackles for loss, but there have been questions about his consistency. This has been enough for many to believe that he will be a Day 3 selection.
According to multiple reports, Houston Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien and Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin are in Waco for the Bears’ pro day. Could they be looking at bringing in Oakman?
