The 2016 NCAA Tournament kicks off today, and those who fill out brackets will be watching with baited breath to see if their picks will win their respective games.
Some of these fans also bet on games and thanks to the people at ESPN, we can now see the teams favored to win from a BPI standpoint. Check out the tweet below!
Now, there are the usual suspects like the top seeds and those who earned Top 10 selections, and No. 9 seeds that play No. 8 squads are basically washes anyway. All in all, this graphic isn’t really a complete surprise.
But of course, there are some that really stand out. Gonzaga is favored over Seton Hall despite being a No. 11 seed, and No. 5 Baylor is only given a 60 % chance to win over Yale. On top of that, No. 6 Arizona is basically looking at 50-50 odds over Wichita State.
Of course, none of these are entirely surprising either. Gonzaga is in the big dance for the 18th year in a row and is arguably better than its seeding, plus has to play a Seton Hall team coming off an incredibly emotional win over Villanova in the Big East Final. Baylor has size and experience, but Yale’s three-point shooting is borderline unstoppable despite the expulsion of team captain Jack Montague.
And regarding Arizona and Wichita State? Well, all I’ll say is look at the Shockers’ performance in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Tip-off is only a short while away, so be sure to stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates from the 2016 NCAA Tournament!
