Tyrone Wallace out for NCAA Tournament

California Golden Bears point guard Tyrone Wallace will miss the entire 2016 NCAA Tournament after re-breaking his right hand in practice yesterday, according to an official statement from the basketball program. Cal’s statement on Wallace’s injury was posted to Twitter by Tim Booth of the AP.

As a result of his injury, Wallace will be out for the next 3-5 weeks and leaves the Golden Bears without their leading scorer and passer for tomorrow’s tournament opener against No. 13 Hawaii. This is the second time this season that he broke his right hand, having done so the first time in January and missed five games. Thus, it can be argued that he rushed back.

Cal will now likely lean on freshmen Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown to lead the Golden Bears on offense and while those two are very talented in their own right, the experience of an established senior in Tyrone Wallace will certainly be missed and definitely make an impact on California’s overall performance in the tournament this year.
