Alex Rodriguez throws up ‘The U’ after Miami makes Sweet 16

New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez is a proud Miami native and thus a huge Hurricanes fan, so it’s only natural that he was quite excited this afternoon after the No. 3 ‘Canes defeated Wichita State to punch a ticket to the Sweet Sixteen next week.

To celebrate, Rodriguez took to Twitter and threw up “The U” while wearing a green shirt.

Though born in New York, Rodriguez moved with his family to Miami when he was four years old. He went on to become a star in both baseball and football at Westminster Christian and nearly attended Miami on a baseball scholarship, with the football team also interested in adding him as a quarterback. He instead opted to turn professional and has built a nice career in baseball for himself, winning a World Series and several MVP awards despite having recently served a year-long suspension for use of performance-enhancing drugs.

But when push comes to shove, Rodriguez is simply a Miami guy. And like any true Miami guy, he knows that it’s all about “The U.”
