Miami dismisses K Jon Semerene for inappropriate conduct

Mark Richt was hired t be the new head coach at Miami just a few months ago, but he is already making big changes to the program. He just recently dismissed kicker Jon Semerene for what he called “conduct detrimental to the team and to others.”

Richt announced the move Friday evening, but there was no specification of the violation that Semerene made. Richt did release a statement on the situation.

“After consulting with Director of Athletics Blake James, I have decided to dismiss Jon Semerene from our football team for conduct detrimental to the team and to others,” Richt said in a statement. “We expect all of our student-athletes to represent our university and The U family in a first-class and safe manner. While he is no longer part of our program, we will do all we can to help him as he moves forward in his life.”

Luckily for the Hurricanes, Semerene only handled kickoffs for the team last season. He did boot 40-percent of his 64 kickoffs into the endzone, but the team will likely hand the kickoff duties over to placekicker Michael Badgley.
