NCAA Wrestling Tournament 2016: Team Standings entering finals

The Penn State Nittany Lions jumped out to an early lead in the team standings at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Tournament and they have managed to hang onto the top spot for the past few days.

Now, entering Saturday’s action as we prepare for the championship finals, Penn State retains a stronghold on the top spot and virtually has another national championship locked up.

Penn State is also tied with Oklahoma State, Iowa and Virginia Tech with six All-Americans. No other team claims more than four.

The top ten in the team standings at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Tournament can be seen below:

1. Penn State 114.0
2. Oklahoma State 79.5
3. Iowa 77.5
4. Virginia Tech 69.5
5. Ohio State 68.0
6. Missouri 58.5
7. Nebraska 56.0
8. Cornell 53.5
9. North Carolina State 43.0
10. Illinois 42.0

All signs point towards Penn State reclaiming the team national championship that they held from 2011-14 before being upended by the Ohio State Buckeyes a year ago.

We will find out during Saturday’s finals if the Nittany Lions can hang on.

Session five of the NCAA Wrestling Championships will continue at 11 a.m. ET with the All-American rounds. You can tune in to the action live on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
