No. 8 St. Joseph’s took the lead on Isaiah Miles’ three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining and punched a ticket to a Sunday date with No. 1 Oregon after a potentially buzzer-beating dunk by Octavius Ellis of No. 9 Cincinnati was waved off to pull off the 78-76 victory.

DeAndre Bembry led the Hawks with 25 points as the Hawks fought off a scrappy Cincinnati squad, and all that Ellis could do once his dunk was waved off was weep into a towel. He had the potential to continue his collegiate career with a bang after being dismissed from Cincinnati as a freshman over off-court behavioral issues and returning as a junior college transfer, but it was sadly not to be.
As a result, St. Joe’s is now set to play the red-hot Oregon Ducks on Sunday and given the Hawks’ tough defensive approach under veteran coach Phil Martelli, the Ducks had better prepare accordingly.
