LSU star freshman forward Ben Simmons has long been considered the best player in the country and before he even made it to campus in Baton Rogue, people were already putting him at the top of their draft boards. He, unsurprisingly, made his decision official Monday morning.
Last week, Simmons made the announcement that he would be hiring an agent, all but confirming he would be entering the NBA Draft this summer. He told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman that he was declaring for the draft late Sunday night.
“I’m making it official,” Simmons told ESPN.
Simmons really had no intentions of returning to school this season after the Tigers had a pretty disappointing season, finishing 19-14, missing the NCAA Tournament, and declining all other postseason tournament invitations.
Ben Simmons was named the SEC Freshman of the Year after he averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season. Many expect him to be the top pick in the draft, but he and Duke’s Brandon Ingram have been going back and forth for that distinction as of late.
