It’s not very often that a major university or institution pulls off a move that seriously raises the classy bar, but Texas A&M has officially become one of those schools.
According to a report from Mary Ann Roser of The Austin American-Statesman, a graduation ceremony was held for 23-year-old Jenny Brewer at her father Jim’s home in Austin. The reason? Jim Brewer is terminally ill with cancer and wanted nothing more than to see his daughter graduate from college.

Sure enough, Texas A&M Associate Dean John Hurtado jumped at the chance and set everything up himself. Thus, on Tuesday afternoon, the ceremony was held at the Brewer household and Jim Brewer was able to watch his daughter graduate from the same school he did back in 1980.
This was a great move on Texas A&M’s part. How often does a school with thousands upon thousands of students take the time to grant this small service to a dying man, even if it isn’t the most convenient of requests?
Either way, it’s great that the Brewer family got to celebrate their daughter’s graduation, even if it was two months early.
