Jeffery Simmons apologizes for actions caught on video

Five-star defensive end and Mississippi State signee Jeffery Simmons took to Facebook today to apologize for his actions that were recently caught on video by Mississippi CBS affiliate WCBI.

In the video, Simmons can be seen repeatedly beating a woman while she is down on the ground. Local police in his hometown of Macon, Mississippi have not commented nor has Simmons been charged with a crime. His apology may be seen in full below.

Even if the woman in question did speak ill of Simmons’ deceased nephews, that doesn’t give him an excuse for what he did. Violence against women is not something to be taken lightly and the sports world has taken a hard stance on it in recent years.

That said, depending on how this situation plays out, don’t be shocked if Simmons draws a suspension from Mississippi State or loses his scholarship outright.
