The Final Four takes place at Houston’s NRG Stadium on Saturday, and fans are willing to pay a pretty penny for tickets available for resale. Per SeatGeek, tickets to Saturday’s games are going for an average of $803 for resale.
Now, before everyone starts squawking about how expensive that is, keep in mind that’s the combined cost of both games Saturday and the title game a week from today. In terms of just the semifinal games, those are reselling for $515 apiece while those for the championship game go for $455 on resale.
SeatGeek also crunched the numbers and determined that it was primarily Oklahoma and Syracuse fans who were buying the most tickets, with 10 percent of sales coming from the Sooner State and nine percent coming from New York.
In terms of why the prices are so high, just look at the teams involved. North Carolina is a No. 1 seed trying to win a third title under Roy Williams, while Villanova is back in the Final Four for the first time since 2009 and looking as strong as it has in several years.
Then, there’s an Oklahoma team led by star guard Buddy Hield, who is having a tournament for the ages. Oh, and let’s not forget a No. 10 Syracuse team that nobody thought deserved to be in the tournament from the get-go. With that kind of action, it’s miraculous that the tickets aren’t re-selling for $1000-plus.
