Jeffery Simmons to face charges over violent video

Jeffery Simmons, a five-star signee in Mississippi State’s 2016 recruiting class, will face charges as a result of a recently released video that shows him beating a woman several times while she is on the ground.

WCBI, the local CBS affiliate in Simmons’ hometown of Macon, Mississippi, reported the new development on Twitter.

Simmons publicly apologized on Facebook and said that though the woman in question allegedly spoke ill of a deceased family member of his, that his actions were no excuse.

And now all eyes will shift to Mississippi State to see just what they will do in response to these charges, if anything. Simmons is the only five-star prospect that the Bulldogs have set to arrive on campus later this year, but setting a positive example should take priority in this case. The sports world has taken a strong stance on violence against women over the past couple of years and in the case of Jeffery Simmons, there is zero reason to make an exception.
