There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at the Dean Smith Center on Senior Night, when North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Marcus Paige gave an emotional speech in which he thanked coach Roy Williams for everything that he did for the point man and his family, and nobody seemed to appreciate the speech more than Williams himself.
Williams called into The Dan Patrick Show as a guest earlier this morning and when the topic of the speech came up, he did not hold back.
“I’ll say this right here. If you say ‘I’ll give you a million dollars but if you get this million dollars, you’ve got to forget the way you felt when Marcus Paige said those things’ I’d pass up the million,” Williams said. “I’d pass up 10 million. Because that’s what you coach for, to have that kind of relationship with young men.”

Suddenly, we have an idea of just how strong a relationship Williams and Paige have. The two have certainly been through a lot together these past four years, having made the NCAA Tournament each season but only just making the Final Four for the first time.
