Vernon Hargreaves labeled best CB by scout

Former Florida Gators star Vernon Hargreaves has been labeled the best cornerback in this year’s NFL Draft by one scout, per Mark Eckel of NJ.com.

“I do think he’s the best corner,” the scout said. “He’s not as athletic as [Jalen] Ramsey, but he’s a smoother cover guy that Ramsey. Only thing he lacks is Ramsey’s size.”

And on numbers alone, Hargreaves is easily in the best cornerback in the draft conversation. The former five-star recruit from Tampa totaled 121 tackles with 10 interceptions and 27 pass breakups in three years in Gainesville, and was so great on the field that opposing offenses just stopped throwing the ball in his general direction in 2015.

That said, though Ramsey is a superior athlete who also ran track at Florida State, to say he is the best corner is a stretch since he can also play safety. In terms of pure cornerbacks, there really isn’t anybody better than Vernon Hargreaves.
