Running backs have become devalued over recent years, with less and less hearing their names called in the first round of the draft. But when your name is being thrown in the same lot as Adrian Peterson’s, you may just hear yours called in the first round in Chicago.
Such is the case with Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott. An unnamed AFC running backs coach recently was quoted by NFL Media as putting Elliott in the same breadth as the Vikings ‘back.
“I feel the same way about (Ezekiel) Elliott that I felt about Adrian (Peterson). It was hard to find weaknesses for Adrian coming out and it’s hard to find weaknesses for Elliott. I don’t usually believe in taking running backs in the first round, but Elliott is one of those guys you make an exception for just like with Adrian Peterson,” the scout said to NFL.com.
Elliott surely is head and shoulders above the rest of this year’s running back crop, however it will be interesting to see if there are any NFL teams that think he’s enough to spend their first round pick on.
