It certainly does look like the San Francisco 49ers will be sending quarterback Colin Kaepernick off to the Denver Broncos. However, no one seems to know when exactly that will happen at this point.
Despite reports from Saturday saying the deal was in place and was pending on if Kaepernick takes a pay cut, there is currently no deal in place according to a source close to the situation. ESPN reported that news yesterday and the source put it plainly saying “someone wanted it out there.”
Whether that “someone” is from the 49ers or Broncos is still a mystery, but it is very clear they want to see the deal get done. The deal still could get done, but the 49ers have until Friday to work out a deal with the Broncos and have Colin Kaepernick accept a pay cut before his $11.9 million becomes guaranteed.
The Broncos have already been busy with trades this offseason after they gave a conditional draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Mark Sanchez. He is likely not the answer for them, so this is probably why they have gone out and tried to acquire Kaepernick.
However, whatever ends up happening, it is likely the Broncos will draft a quarterback in April just to give them so extra depth and options to select from in the 2016 season.
