Former Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was arrested on DUI and marijuana possession charges early this morning, according to WBNS-10TV.
Police in Westerville, Ohio told the TV station that Smith was pulled over initially for failure to display a front license plate and blew a .143 in a breathalyser test. He was taken into police custody and later released.
Smith, 31, spent four years with the Buckeyes, playing under legendary coach Jim Tressel, and left Columbus with 5,720 pass yards with 54 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while also adding 1,168 yards and 14 scores on the ground. He was made a fifth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2007 NFL Draft and also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes. Today, he serves as a graduate assistant under Ohio State AD Gene Smith.
The good news is that on paper, these charges are fairly minor. Hopefully, they don’t affect Smith’s future with the university.
