Pittsburgh Steelers star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is nicknamed “Big Ben,” and rightfully so considering he is 6-foot-5, around 240 pounds, but that could all be changing in 2016.
According to a report from ESPN, Roethlisberger’s offseason workout regimen has included “high cardio” exercising and, as a result, he is at least 15 pounds lighter after suffering multiple injuries last year; including a knee sprain that kept him out for four games, a foot sprain, a concussion and a separated shoulder.
“He couldn’t really work out because he kept getting hurt,” Roethlisberger’s agent, Ryan Tollner said. “I think he said after the season, you know what, I’m going to lose weight to alleviate potential pain in my joints.”
And it’s honestly great to see that Ben Roethlisberger is looking to take better care of himself as he enters his 13th NFL season. He isn’t getting any younger at 34 years old and though adding weight may have been beneficial in terms of ability to absorb hits in the pocket, it was far from a long term solution.
Hopefully, playing at a lighter weight allows the two-time Super Bowl champion to have something of a rebound in 2016.
