Carlton Davis predicts 5-0 start for Auburn

To say that the Auburn Tigers had a disappointing 2015 season would be an understatement as many expected them to compete for the SEC and get to the College Football Playoff. After finishing 7-6 with a win in the Birmingham Bowl, the Tigers are looking to turn things around in 2016 and cornerback Carlton Davis has all the confidence in the world in his team.

He spoke with reporters and discussed how he sees his team doing something big this year. He even went so far as to say the team would open the season 5-0.

We’re not going to be talked about at the beginning of the season, but I feel like once we go on a 5-0 run people will start to recognize what’s working for Auburn,” Davis said. “It’s the defense. We’re getting better every day. Coach (Kevin) Steele, Coach (Wesley) McGriff and all our new coaches are just working us. I feel it. It’s like a gut feeling. I just feel it.”

The Tigers open the season hosting Clemson, the team that went undefeated and played for a national championship. They also host SEC West opponents Texas A&M and LSU in that stretch so it would be pretty tough to grab a 5-0 start.

However, Carlton Davis is certainly right about people talking about Auburn then. If the Tigers were get big wins to open the season, there is no question that they would end up being considered as contenders for the CFP at the end of the day.

However, now that is comments have gone viral, I am pretty sure Davis can expect to be confronted by head coach Gus Malzahn. He certainly doesn’t want his players running off at the mouth like Davis did.
