NFL Draft 2016: Kevin Dodd ‘just scratching the surface’

Clemson defensive ends and teammates Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd are two of the best players in the 2016 NFL Draft and should both be taken in the first round. On NFL Network, analysts and former NFL scouts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah discussed which of the two former Tigers they would take in the draft and they both had differing opinions.

Brooks talked about Lawson is the “clear winner” between the two for his ability to get up the field and sack the quarterback. He mentioned that Lawson led the country in tackles for loss in the 2015 season with 25.5.

Jeremiah had a pretty good argument for Dodd as well, saying that because he doesn’t have the football background like Lawson, he is getting pushed back a bit. He then mentioned that Kevin Dodd’s 23.5 tackles for loss was second in the country behind Lawson and that he had a great showing in the national championship game, recording five tackles for loss and three sacks.

“He just continues to get better, every game you watch him,” Jeremiah said. “He doesn’t have that football background growing up, so all of it is in front of Kevin Dodd. He is just scratching the surface.”

Whatever happens with these two defensive ends, there is no question that both of them should go on to have great NFL careers. One team could only be so lucky to end up with both of them on their roster one day.
