Villanova won the 2016 NCAA Tournament on Monday, and it’s time to celebrate. Per an AP report, the victory parade for the Wildcats will be held today, in Philadelphia.
The parade route itself is short, spanning five downtown blocks before ending at City Hall. Even better is that Villanova’s campus, which is in the suburbs, is closed today and all classes have been canceled so the entire student body, faculty and administration can be in attendance and involved.
And the Wildcats faithful deserve it. Monday’s win marked the first time since 1985 that Villanova had won a national championship in basketball, and it also earned longtime coach Jay Wright the honor that though he has only reached the Final Four twice in 15 years with Villanova, at least one of those times ended with a championship.
Moreover, given how the City of Brotherly Love hasn’t experienced a championship since the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series in 2008, this celebration will surely be appreciated.
