Wounded officer proposes to girlfriend after throwing first pitch at Phillies game

The Philadelphia Phillies honored police officer Jesse Hartnett at their home opener on Monday. Hartnett threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Citizens Bank Park.

Hartnett then turned this momentous day even more memorable, when he proposed to his girlfriend after throwing the pitch. His girlfriend, Lilly, of course, said yes.

Hartnett was injured in an ambush attack while on duty in January. He was attacked, point-blank, by a lone ISIS gunman while sitting in his car. Hartnett was hit three times in the arm and luckily was wearing a bullet vest at the time. He suffered a broken left arm along with some nerve damage. The attacker was taken into police custody. Hartnett has served on the Philadelphia police force for five years.

Villanova basketball stars, and recent national champions, Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu also threw pitches after Hartnett, but weren’t as successfully memorable.
