Mississippi State dismisses WR Fred Brown

Mississippi State wide receiver Fred Brown has been dismissed from the program for a violation of the student honor code, according to Michael Bonner of The Clarion-Ledger.

Since Mississippi State’s honor code refers to academics, it’s highly likely that Brown was kicked out for any reason from cheating to plagiarism to falsifying research for a project. He missed the Bulldogs’ scrimmage last weekend for what coach Dan Mullen called “a family matter.”

A former high school star out of Jackson, Brown leaves Starkville with 50 receptions for 785 yards and five touchdowns across three seasons. He ranked third on Mississippi State last season in receiving yards.

The worst of the situation is that Mississippi State is already going to be down two major players next season, as receiver De’Runnya Wilson and star quarterback Dak Prescott are both headed to the NFL, and losing an experienced rising senior in Brown could make for a tougher transition in 2016.
