NFL Draft 2016: Expert thinks the Rams will pick Jared Goff at No. 1

The Los Angeles Rams traded for the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft this morning, and one expert feels that GM Les Snead will ultimately pick California quarterback Jared Goff when the team is officially on the clock.

That expert is longtime football beat writer Michael Silver, who said the following on Twitter.

Goff is certainly a fine NFL prospect, and is sure to be either the first or second man selected this year since the Cleveland Browns will surely use the No. 2 pick on a quarterback. However, in the case of the Rams, Goff is not the right man for them.

Nothing against Goff, but his major rise in draft stock in 2015 came as a result of playing well in Cal coach Sonny Dykes’ spread offense, and that thus makes him look like more of a system quarterback as opposed to a more traditional gunslinger like North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz.

Thus, though anything is possible in the NFL Draft, drafting Goff would probably not be the best move the Rams could make.
