With the NFL Draft shaken up entirely after the Los Angeles Rams traded for the No. 1 overall pick, Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson still knows who he wants GM Sashi Brown to draft with the No. 2 pick.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jackson prefers Cal quarterback Jared Goff to North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz.
This isn’t entirely a surprise, as the Browns are (per usual) a work-in-progress team, while the Rams already have significant tools at hand for Wentz, who is more of a traditional gun-slinging quarterback. Goff, on the other hand, saw his success primarily due to playing in a spread offense under Sonny Dykes at Cal and may have a more significant adjustment period once drafted.
Jackson doesn’t run an exact spread offense, but would work with Goff closely in order to help him make a smooth transition. On top of that, with Robert Griffin III already on the roster, there’s no guarantee that Goff would start immediately.
