Austin Allen named Arkansas starting QB for 2016

Arkansas Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema has named redshirt junior Austin Allen the starting quarterback for the 2016 season, according to ESPN.

The younger brother of last year’s starter, Brandon Allen, Austin Allen is a former four-star recruit out of Fayetteville High School who completed 8 of 16 passes for 153 yards in limited action last season. With the Razorbacks coming up on their spring game, it’s nice to know that they’ll have some stability at the position heading into the new season.

And having Allen under center is probably what’s best for Arkansas, at least at this point. The team is losing not only his brother, but star running back Alex Collins to the NFL and a leader who knows the system will be needed to help steady the transition out of that era.

Given how Arkansas was 8-5 (5-3) in 2015 and beat Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl to enjoy its best season yet under Bielema, here’s hoping that Allen can follow in his brother’s footsteps.
