Brandon Browner re-signs with Seattle Seahawks

Veteran cornerback Brandon Browner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks and will officially re-sign with the team on Monday, according to a tweet from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

Browner, 31, first joined the Seahawks in 2011 after four years of playing for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and became an immediate impact player, making the 2011 Pro Bowl. He was also instrumental in helping Seattle get to Super Bowl XLVIII, but did not play in the 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos due to a suspension.

Browner then signed with the New England Patriots that offseason and was a key figure in clearing the way for teammate Malcolm Butler to secure the game-saving and championship-winning interception in Super Bowl XLIX against Seattle. He spent last season with the New Orleans Saints and was disappointing, though he revealed he was playing with a torn MCL.

And Browner should provide leadership and consistency on Seattle’s defense in 2016, with the Seahawks looking to rebound after going 10-6 and losing to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Divisional Game. Hopefully, Browner rebounds well enough that the Seahawks can have a clearer path back to the Super Bowl.
