Two Syracuse football players stabbed by former teammate

Syracuse football players Chauncey Scissum and Corey Winfield are in the news for the wrong reasons, as they were reportedly stabbed last night by a former teammate in defensive back Naesean Howard. The stabbing was reported by Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com and beat writer Paul Schwedelson posted the police report to Twitter.

Bailey reports that Winfield is reported to be in stable condition, but Scissum’s is unknown. What’s even more disturbing is that no reason has yet been given for why Howard sought these two out and stabbed them. It’s frightening and disturbing, especially since Winfield and Scissum were both starting defensive backs last year and were expected to continue being so under new coach Dino Babers.

In terms of Howard himself, he is a former three-star recruit from the Syracuse area who was dismissed from the team in 2014 over what was reported to be a missed curfew, but it was learned in February that he was still enrolled at Syracuse and was interested in rejoining the team with Babers at the helm.

Unfortunately, that’s all about to be over now. Stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates on this developing story!
