UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor announces retirement?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor sent the mixed martial arts world into a frenzy on Tuesday afternoon, after sending out a cryptic tweet about retirement.

McGregor took to Twitter to announce he “decided to retire young.”

But just how serious is McGregor?

Currently, he is slated to rematch Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during International Fight Week in July. The UFC has not commented on McGregor’s retirement tweet, but that hasn’t stopped fans and media members from losing their minds and considering the possibility.

Then there were others who seemed intrigued of a potential leap to wrestling entertainment.

Even Whataburger got in on the fun:

If McGregor has indeed retired, he quickly left his mark on the sport.

McGregor burst onto the scene as a brash Irishman in a relatively under the radar division. Now, McGregor is one of the biggest stars in MMA and his retirement would have some serious financial impact on the UFC.

We will update you if there is any further information on the story.
