Derryck Thornton down to 4 schools?

Former five-star point guard and Duke Blue Devil is reportedly down to four schools as he considers just to where he will transfer. Per ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, those four are USC, Washington, Miami and Kansas.

Originally from the Los Angeles area, it’s easy to see why the Trojans and Huskies would be on Thornton’s list. Both schools are close to home, thus making it easier for his family to come watch him play. However, Miami just made the Sweet Sixteen and Kansas has constantly been in contention for a national championship under coach Bill Self.

But it is also important to remember that Thornton will need to sit out the 2015-16 season, per NCAA bylaws, so he is probably also thinking about which program will give him the best chance at significant playing time once he is eligible to suit up again. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists over 26 minutes per game last year while shooting 39 percent from the field, and just wasn’t a great fit in Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s system.

Thus, now that he is basically a free agent, stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates on Thornton’s story!
