An unnamed NFL scout has compared Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones to one of the biggest busts of all time, JaMarcus Russell. Ouch. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Bob McGinn spoke to a number of anonymous NFL scouts, and quoted a scathing assessment of Jones from one of the scouts.
”Kind of reminds me of a poor man’s JaMarcus Russell“, a scout went on, “At least JaMarcus had some touch. This guy just throws the ball. His mechanics are all over the place.”
Another scout that McGinn spoke to implied that he wasn’t impressed with Jones’ intangibles.
“Strong arm. Big, big body. Not the brightest cookie in the world. I worry about him when he gets money in his pocket. I just don’t know if it’s all there mentally.”
In relief, there was one scout that actually had something positive to say about the Ohio State quarterback.
“You can’t pass a talent like that. If you’re going to bet on one, bet on a guy with all the talent if he shows you enough want-to.”
Jones is a project, and many are well aware of that. After all, he almost lost the starting gig in his career as a Buckeye due to inconsistency, and an extremely low attempted pass total of 269.
Ideally, Jones will spend some time on the bench learning behind a more proven quarterback after he’s drafted.
