The Indiana Hoosiers saw a resurgence in their team last season as they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2016 NCAA Tournament and fell just short of upsetting North Carolina. One reason they had so much success was because of freshman O.G. Anunoby and they will have him for at least one more season.
Anunoby released a statement on Friday saying he would stick around with the team for this sophomore year. In the statement, he said he loves his teammates and wouldn’t want to disappoint them by leaving early.
“I will not be declaring for the NBA Draft this year and will return to Indiana University,” Anunoby said in the statement. “I love my teammates and coaches and look forward to getting better every day with their help.”
Tom Crean’s club had a good year on the court and they are expected to be just as good, even with Yogi Ferrell being gone. Anunoby will be expected to step up into a bigger role for the Hoosiers.
Last season, O.G. Anunoby had a pretty good year, averaging 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds on the year. He certainly has a lot more to offer from his sheer size and athleticism on the court.
He should use his extra year with the Hoosiers to get better and prepare for the NBA, which is the end goal for him.
