Before moving to Chicago in 2015, the NFL Draft had been held in New York City since 1965. Now, it looks like the draft could be on the move again as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is pretty sure the 2017 NFL Draft will be held elsewhere.
He spoke with the Chicago Sun Times and said that there is a good chance the draft will be held elsewhere next year. He said that it is “very likely” at this point, but things could change.
Goodell talked about the city, saying that the NFL was pleasantly surprised with how well Chicago treated the draft in 2015. This led to the league returning for this year’s festivities as well.
“We really didn’t know what to expect,” Goodell said. “We were very pleased.”
Chicago treated the NFL and the draft very well over the last two years, including giving the league a big discount to use Grant Park. This was met with controversy, but it is still odd that they wouldn’t consider having the 2017 NFL Draft in the Windy City as well.
