Video: Matt Holliday almost hits umpire with bat toss

The St. Louis Cardinals beat up on the San Diego Padres Saturday for their ninth win of the season, but we almost saw our first ejection of the year. Matt Holliday got walked for the second time in the game in the top of the sixth inning when he decided to toss his bad towards the dugout.

The only problem with his bat toss was that it got stuck to his glove and flew up into the air instead of going towards the dugout. It almost nailed umpire Tim Timmons in the head in the process.

Holliday was immediately apologetic as he made his way towards first base and Timmons gave him a death stare. It was obviously an accident, but the home crowd sure didn’t think so.

Maybe the rest of the MLB will take Matt Holliday’s near costly mistake as a warning. If you are going to toss your bat, make sure you don’t almost hit the umpire.
