Virginia still searching for starting QB after spring practices

“Our quarterback situation right now has not revealed itself,”offensive coordinator at Virginia, Robert Anae said, via The Free Lance-Star. “So we’re going to continue to go into fall camp, and it may take all of fall camp before we get to the bottom of it.”

Matt Johns and Connor Brewer are currently front-runners for the starting job for the Cavaliers. Johns played the majority of Virginia’s last season, but feelings about his performance are mixed. Johns also started in Virginia’s spring game but split playing time with Brewer.

“Matt was the returning starter and he started practice that way, taking the first reps,” quarterbacks coach Jason Beck said. “But then as we went on, Connor was playing really well. So we just split up the reps, made an even competition and they went after it every day that way.”

Virginia will kick off the 2016 season at home against FCS power Richmond on September 3. They finished 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the ACC in the 2015 season.
