Emmitt Smith welcomes Ezekiel Elliott to Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys selected former Ohio State star Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick last night, and former Cowboys star running back and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith made sure to welcome him on Twitter.

Smith too was a first-round pick by Dallas, going 17th overall out of Florida in 1990. He went on to enjoy a lengthy NFL career with both Dallas and the Arizona Cardinals, eventually becoming the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards. Smith also won three Super Bowls, three MVP trophies and made eight Pro Bowls. Needless to say, Elliott has some big shoes to fill.

But the former Buckeye, like Smith, is a versatile running back who can also be a factor in the passing game. Moreover, playing behind that strong Dallas offensive line, Ezekiel Elliott has every chance of becoming the piece that perhaps finally helps Dallas get over the top.
