The Virginia Cavaliers still have a pretty glaring problem at the quarterback position going into the 2016 season, but it looks like they will get a tremendous boost soon. Former East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert announced he would be transferring to Virginia to continue his collegiate career.
Benkert was slated to be the Pirates’ starter in 2015 before tearing his ACL and missing the entire season. He went through all the team’s spring practices before announcing his intentions to transfer out of Greenville.
He opened up the Pirates’ spring game with a 75-yard touchdown pass and he certainly looked to be on his way to the starting job under new head coach Scottie Mongomery. However, he will now be playing under a new head coach in Bronco Mendenhall.
This should be a huge win for the Cavaliers as Kurt Benkert looks to be raring to go and ready to compete for the starting job.
