The 2016 NFL Draft is in the books, and there were plenty of surprises from linebackers Tyler Matakevich and Scooby Wright falling to the seventh round to the number of Ohio State players selected.
Which brings the conversation to this interesting statistic. Let’s go back to January’s Fiesta Bowl, which saw the Buckeyes take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a game that Ohio State won 44-28.
From that game alone, 19 players have since been drafted into the NFL. Granted, 12 of them were from Ohio State, a new record, but Notre Dame deserves its fair credit too, from linebacker Jaylon Smith to running back C.J. Prosise to defensive back KeiVarae Russell.
Simply put, this probably won’t ever happen again for a number of years, if at all, so anyone who calls themselves a football fan should take a step back and appreciate just how great this year’s NFL Draft class really was, especially from these two schools.
