Photos: Kentucky Derby favorite Nyquist drinks from Stanley Cup

The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is set to take place today, with Nyquist leading the field as the betting favorite.

In anticipation of the big race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Nyquist, who is named after Red Wings player Gustav Nyquist, received a visit from the Stanley Cup. For some good luck, the horse enjoyed some pre-race hydration from the cup.

The moment was captured by Nyquist’s account.

Nyquist even allowed his pony to drink some of the Kool-Aid right from Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Let’s see if this good luck leads to a championship performance from the horse in today’s big race. “The most exciting two minutes in sports” is set to begin this evening at 6:43 p.m. ET.
