Bengals sign kicker who never made field goal or extra point in college

Over the weekend, the Cincinnati Bengals announced the signing of four undrafted free agents.

Among the undrafted players who received contracts from the Bengals was former Louisville Cardinals kicker Jon Brown. The signing of Brown, who was Louisville’s backup kicker, comes as a bit of a surprise because he has never attempted a kick that could have resulted in points.

Yes, the Bengals signed a kicker who has never attempted or made a field goal or extra point in college.

Brown did, however, play soccer at Louisville.

There’s something there and you can work with him or else he wouldn’t be here,” special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons said.

So while there wasn’t much on tape for the former Cardinal, it was enough to earn a shot in the NFL and so far he is making the best of his opportunity. It will be interesting to see if the former soccer player lands a NFL kicking gig.

He’s certainly got a leg on him.
