How you may be offending wounded warriors without realizing it

At the commencement of the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, the George W. Bush Institute hosted the Symposium on Invisible Wounds. President Bush warned against insulting our wounded warriors with the term ‘Post Traumatic Stress DISORDER’.

“We don’t view it as a disorder, we view it as an injury,” Bush said during a panel discussion using injured hero, Israel Del Toro, as an example. “If he thinks he has an injury he thinks, ‘Hey I can get this fixed’, but if he thinks he has a DISORDER, he’s going to say ‘people will shun me.’”

President Bush’s advice highlighted the name of this international sporting event, “Invictus,” which means “unconquered.”

After watching these athletes in action, I completely agree with President Bush when he said these men and women deserve our help, but not our pity.
